[Greek leptos =small; Eng. meningitis.] Inflammation of either the pia mater or arachnoid membrane. lěp-ton, s. [Gr. lepton =a minute piece of money (about of a cent), from leptos =thin.] Zool.: A genus of Lucinide. The shell is suborbicular, compre ed, smooth, or shagreened. The foot is thick and tapering. Fifty species are known, from Europe, America, . They are from the Laminarian and Coralline zones. There are five fo il species, from the Pliocene onward. (S. P. Woodward.)
