globulin

(glob’u-lin) [L. globu’lus globule]. 1. A protein derivable from the cye-lens: crystal lin. 2. A cla of proteins characterized by being insoluble in water and alcohol. but soluble in 0.5-1 per cent. solution of some neutral salt, from which solution they may be precipitated with sodium chlorid. They are coagulated by heat. The globulins are serum-globulin, Jactoglobulin, cell-globulin, myoglobulin, myosin, musculin, and fibrinogen. crystalline g., vegetable g., a globulin obtainable from the seeds of pumpkins, etc. fibrin-g., a globulin body found in the blood-serum after coagulation and thought to be split off from the fibrinogen during clotting. serum-g. Same as para globulin.
