JUJUBE

the fruit of a spiny shrub of the buckthorn family, in some parts eaten uncooked, but more often dried and sold as a sweetmeat. It looks somewhat like a date and is generally red, though sometimes yellow in color. It contains a large percentage of nutrients and is highly rated medicinally for its demulcent properties. i The jujube has given its name to the famous confection “Jujubes,” or “Jujube Paste,” but the latter is generally made of gum-arabic and sugar.
