INFLAMMATION

In Pathology, this term is applied to redne and heat of some part of the body, attended by pain and swelling: the vascular action of the part is increased; and if it does not subside or terminate in resolution, it produces three diff'erent effects, which, where they take place healthily, follow each other in regular order. These are, 1. adhesion; 2. suppuration j 3. ulceration. [s. 611]
