the youngest son of Jacob and Rachel, who was born, A. M. 2272. Jacob, being on his journey from Me so pot am i a, as he was proceeding southward with Rachel in the company, Gen. xxxv, 16, 17, , the pains of child-bearing came upon her, about a quarter of a league from Bethlehem, and she died after the delivery of a son, whom, with her last breath, she named Benoni, that is, “the son of my sorrow;” but soon afterward Jacob changed his name, and called him Benjamin, that is, “the son of my right hand.” See Joseph .
