Benjamin

(běn'jah-min.) (Script.) The youngest son of the patriarch Jacob and of Rachel, was the favorite of his father, (Gen. xlii., xliii., xliv.) The tribe of B., though the least numerous of Israel, became, neverthele , a considerable race in proce of time. At the division of the kingdom after the death of Solomon, B. espoused the cause of Judah, and formed, together with it, a kingdom by themselves. [s. 88]
