the most proive tribe in the Iroquois federation, ers in the W. as the Mohawks were on the east. Their territory was in western New York between Seneca Lake and the Genes see River. After the Erie and Neutral Nation were crushed, 1650-60, the remainder of these tribes was absorbed by the Seneca who now proceeded to occupy conquered territory west to Lake Erie and south to the Allegheny. During the Revolution they sided with the British and in retaliation Sullivan devastated their fields and villages. Descendants of the Senecas are still to be found in New York state.
