Joint

The junction of close fitting parts; as the flanges of two joined pipes. Joints generally take their names from the material inserted between the parts connected, to make the joint steam or watertight. If for instance india-rubber, red-lead, or sheet-copper are employed, they are called „ India-rubber-joint", „ Red-lead-joint”, etc.
