Ceiling

Illustrated Marine Encyclopedia · 1890 · p. 5
Is the inner planking of a ship, and of great importance in a wooden ve el; strictly speaking. « ceiling » is only the thinner inside planking in the tween-decks, and hold of a ve el. The thicker strakes, viz limber-strakes, clamps, shelves, and spirkettings do not properly come under the head of ceiling. See Plates 6 4 7.
