C1.H12. Mpt. 250° C. Aromatic hydrocarbon, obtained from coal tar, containing a benzene nucleus and a naphthalene nucleus. It crystallizes in white plates which show an intense violet fluorescence; is soluble in hot benzene and glacial acetic acid, and yields a ketone on oxidation.
