PALUDINA

(Lat.pal us, amarsh.) A genus of freshwater or marsh snails; so called from their location in marshes, ditches, and slow streams. Many species are common in Great Britain; a beautiful example, called the agate marsh-shell (Paludina a chat in a, Lam.), may be found in the smaller tributaries of the Thames. [s. 895]
