Lodge-pole

Is a pole used by Indians in the construction of their teepes. It is generally of mountain pine or ash, about 30 feet long; 2 to 2 1 ⁄ 2 inches at the butt, and 1 1 ⁄ 2 inches at the other extremity. Lodge-poles are also used by the Indians to construct their travaux , to convey their wounded, camp equipments, etc. See Travois .
