Spencer

Herbert, the English philosopher, was born in 1820. He was apprenticed as a civil engineer, worked several years on railways, and contributed profe ional papers to the “ Civil Engineer and Architect's Journal," besides a series of letters in 1842 on the “ Proper Sphere of Government ” to the " Nonconformist. In 1848 he became sub-editor of the “ Economist,” ' published “ Social Statics" in 1851, and “ Principles of Psychology " in 1855. About the life, mind, society, and morals, which included “ First Principles,” “Principles of Biology," “ Principles of Psychology," “Principles of Sociology,” “Ceremonial Institutions," “Political Institutions,” “Ecclesiastical Institutions " (which were part of his “ Principles of Sociology ”), “E ays: Scientific, Political, and Speculative, ’ “ Cla ification of the Sciences," “ The Study of Sociology,” “ Data of Ethics,” “Man versus the State,” and “ Principles of Morality."
