VASTUS

(Lat.), adj. Vast(wast)'u8s(us). Of large size, immense; as a n. m., the v. extern us and v. intern us regarded as one muscle. [L.] V. anterior. See CRUR^EUS. V. extern us. Ger.. A muscle arising from the outer surface and base of the great trochanter. the line between this and the line a aspera, and the upper half of the outer border of the line a aspera. It pa es down the outer and anterior surfaces of the thigh to be inserted into the tendon of the rectus femoris and the upper and outer margins of the patella. [L, 31, 142, 332.] V. intern us. Ger., inner-er dicker Schenkelmuskel. A part of the quadriceps extensor cruris arising from the inner lip of the line a aspera of the femur.
