King of England 866-871; brother of Alfred. Ethelred II., THE UNREADY, 968-1016. King of England 978-1016; son of Edgar and Elfrida. Pre ed by the Danes he made an alliance with the Normans; married Emma, daughter of Duke Richard, 1002, and was driven to Normandy 1014 by Sweyn.
