[Gr. aleiatros, meal, from the powdery dust with which the plant is covered.) ( Bot. ) A gen. of the ord. Hæmodoracea. The A. farinosa, or star gra , grows in low grounds in the U. States. Its roots are intensely bitter. It is used in infusion as a tonic and stomachic, and has been employed in chronic rheu matism.
