(al'-o). The inspi ated juice of several species of aloe, of which the A. socotrina, A. barb a dens is, and A. capensis are most commonly used. Its properties are due to a glucosid, aloln, A tonic astringent, useful in amenorrhea, chronic constipation, and atonic dyspepsia. It is also an emmenagogue and anthelmintic. Dose gr. j-v. A. american a. See Agave . A. Decoct., Comp. (B.P.). Dose gr. -ij. A. Enema (B.P.), aloes, carbonate of pota ium; mucilage of starch. A. et Asafcetida, Pil., aloes and asafetida aa gr. A. et Canellae. Pulv., contains powdered bark of Canella alba. Dose gr. t— xx. A. et Ferri, Pil., contains gr. j each of aloes, ferrous sulphate, and aromatic powder, incorporated with confection of roses. A. et Mastich, Pil, " Lady Webster's" pill, contains each aloes gr. ij, mastich and red rose gr. . A. et Pil., contains each aloes gr. ij, gr. j, aromatic powder gr. , mixed with syrup. A. et Tinct., aloes 10, io, alcohol loo parts. Dose 3 - 3 ij. A. Ext. Aquosum, prepared by mixing I with 10 parts boiling water, straining and evaporating. Dose gr. -v. A. Pil., aloes and soap aa gr. ij. A. Purificata, the common drug purified by solution in alcohol and evaporation. Dose gr. j— v. A. Socotrin, Pil. (B. P.), contains socotrin, aloes, hard soap, oil of nutmeg and confection of roses. Dose gr. v— x. A. Tinct., consists of aloes 10, glycyrrhiza 10, dil. alcohol 100 parts. Dose A.
