(el-iks’-ir) [Arab., el iksir, the philosopher’s stone]. A sweetened, aromatic, spirituous preparation, containing only a small amount of an active ingredient. E. a rom at i cum (U. S.). Compound spirit of orange, 1.2, syrup 37.5? deodorized alcohol, distilled water, each a sufficient quantity to make ioo c.c. It is used as a vehicle. E. phosphori, spirit of phosphorus 21, oil of anise 0.2, glycerol 55, aromatic elixir a sufficient quantity to make ioo cc. 257
