Elixir

(e-liks'ür.) [Ar.] Among the old alchemists, a fluid employed in the transmutation of the baser metals in gold; also, a nostrum supposed to have the power of perpetuating life; as the elixir vitæ. - (Med.) Any invigorating e ence, tonic, or stimulating cordial. [s. 325]
