Ascites

Accumulation of fluid in the abdominal cavity, giving rise to a painle enlargement of the abdomen; caused by diseases of the heart, liver, and kidneys, which prevent a free return of the blood from the intestines, and tuberculosis of the per it onæum. It is usually relieved by measures directed to the cure of the disease causing it, and by tapping.
