Tchernaya

(char-na'yah,) a river of the Crimea, in the S. of European Ru ia, memorable for the defeat of the Ru ians on its banks, May 16, 1855, by the French and Italian commands of Marshal Peli ier and Gen. Della Marmora. It flows N.W. into the harbor of Sebastopol. [s. 880]
