a sect that sprang up in Holland and Germany about the time of the Reformation, through the influence of Simon Menno. In doctrine they are allied to the Baptists. Members of this body came to this country as early as 1683, and by invitation of William Penn settled in Pennsylvania, In 1727 they published a Confe ion of Faith. In this country there are several varieties of Men no nites, differing mainly in externals, and numbering in all about 60,000 members. 448
