Corbel

In architecture, a form of bracket used in Gothic architecture to support the ends of cornices, arches, parapets, ete. It is a projecting block of stone, usually carved and with a receding face. 3. In masonry, bricks are also said to be corbel lang when the courses overhang each other, thus forming a continuous projection around the wall.
