The act of a igning or transferring or of allotting or awarding. Also, an a ignment is the instrument in writing by which property, rights or interests are transferred. _ A ignment for the benefit of creditors. The act by which an insolvent transfers his property to a trustee (a ignee) who is empowered to manage and sell the same and to pay the proceeds to his creditors.
