Apoplexy

Form of paralysis which occurs suddenly, the patient losing consciousne , which he may or may not regain. Properly restricted to forms due to the actual rupture of a blood ve el in the brain, but popularly including all cases in which there is lo of consciousne with subsequent paralysis of one side of the body. Persons with red face and thick neck are reputed to be particularly prone to this disease, but the theory is not borne out by statistics. A third attack is also held to be nece arily fatal, but it is no more so than that of any other severe disease. Numbne or tingling in various parts of the body aud slight muscular weakne es are sometimes regarded as premonitions, but in the vast majority of cases are due to entirely different, and as a rule simple, causes.
