Apoplexy

(apf-o-pleks-e) [aTroTrA^’a, a striking down]. The symptom-complex resulting from hemorrhage, or from the plugging of a ve el, in the brain or spinal cord. The term is sometimes also applied to the bursting of a ve el in the lungs, liver, etc. A., Capillary, one resulting from rupture of capillaries. A., Ingravescent, a term applied to a form of apoplexy in which there is a slowly progre ive lo of consciousne due to a gradual leakage of blood from a ruptured ve el. A., Pulmonary, escape of blood into the pulmonary parenchyma. A., Simple, the name given to those cases of death from coma in which no cerebral lesion is found. A., Spinal, rupture of a blood-ve el of the spinal cord. 73
