Grindelia

(grin-de'-le-ah). The leaves and flowering top of G. robusta, Wild Sunflower, or Gum-plant, found in California, an ansdpasmodic and motor-depre ant, in large doses producing mydriasis. It is valuable in asthma, bronchitis, and whooping-cough. Dose of the fid. ext. n. iij. G. squarrosa, common agueweed, an herb popular in the western U. S. as a remedy for ague and malarial diseases. It has proved serviceable in chronic rheumatism. Dose of the fld. ext. Unof. G. hirsutula and G. integrifolia of the Pacific States have similar qualities. These plants are all highly resinous; their tinctures or oning. infusions are said to cure the dermatitis of (grin' -del-in). An alkaloid reported to exist in Grindelia robusta.
