"Then mighty Prætus Argos' sceptre sway'd, Whose hard commands Bellerophon obey'd." Pope : Homer's Iliad , bk. iv., 197, 198. 2. Palæont.: A genus of gasteropodous molluscs belonging to the family Atlantidæ. The species have symmetrically convoluted globular or discoidal shells, some of them whorled, and with a deeply-notched aperture. In 1875, Tate estimated the known species at 128, ranging from the Lower Silurian to the Car boniferous rocks.
