Pulley

One of the mechanical powers; serving various purposes, viz': to change the direction of motion; to increase or retard the speed of a machine, or to gain power, at the cost of time. A pulley may consist of a single grooved wheel, fixed or suspended, over which a chain pa es; see for instance „ Guide-pulley, ” for giving direction to steering-chains. Plate 62 B. s.
