CHYLE

(Gr. j;;yAof.) The nutritious fluid prepared from the chyme, and imbibed by the lacteals to be conveyed to the thoracic duct and venous system. It contains about 10 per cent, of solid matter. In most mammals it is white; in birds transparent, except in some that live on ants and insects, as the wood-pecker, which has been observed to be opake; it is white in the crocodile, but colourle and transparent in other reptiles and in fishes.
