Chord

(kord.) [Gr. chorde, the string of a lyre.] Ordinarily, the string of a musical instrument. (Mus.) The combination of two or more sounds heard at the same time, and forming a concord or discord; as a third, fifth, and eighth of the fundamental ba , or their inversions, & c. -(Geom.) A right line drawn from one part of the arc of a circle to another. [s. 183]
