(ar-throp'-a-the). I. Any joint disease. 2. A peculiar disease of the joints similar to rheumatoid arthritis, but, according to Charcot, a distinct disease. It belongs to the prodromal stage of tabes, rapidly destroys the joint, is painle , without fever or inflammation, prefers the large joints, and is connected with hydrarthrosis and swelling of the joints.
