Bartholomew

(St.,) (bar-thol'o-mü,) one of the twelve apostles, and probably the same person as Nathanuel, mentioned in the Gospel of St. John. He is said to have taught Christianity in the south of Arabia. The Roman Catholic Church celebrates his festival on the 24th of August. [s. 76]
