Lace

When lace was first made we cannot say, but point lace, the earliest known, was made in the nun IMG:content-0984.jpg:[graphic] IMG:content-0985.jpg:[graphic] neries ab. 1500. This was wrought upon a linen pattern as its foundation. Pillow-lace is claimed as the invention of a German woman of the 16th century. Machine-made lace, chiefly carried on in Nottingham, Eng., has superseded in large part the old hand-made, and lowered prices very considerably. See HONITON.
