Scylla

(sil'lah,) a promontory of S. Italy, at the mouth of the Strait of Me in a; N. Lat. 38° 14′ 15″, E. Lon. 15° 44'. The navigation at this point was regarded by the ancients as attended with so much danger, in conjunction with that arising from the whirlpool of Charybdis on the opposite side of the Strait, that their names have become indelibly a ociated together as proverbial of danger and destruction.
