(al’nus) [L.]. A genus of betulaceous trees and shrubs—the alders: A. glutino’sa, a tree of Europe, and A. ru’bra and A. serrula’la, shrubs of North America, have tonic and astringent bark. Dose in substance, 8-12 gr. (0.51-0.78 gm.).
