bud, n. An undeveloped branch or flower; a prominence on certain animals, which grows into an animal, as a bud in a plant grows into a flower. — v.i. To put forth buds; to begin to grow, or i ue from a stock like a bud, as a horn; to be in bloom, or growing, —v. t. To insert, as the bud of one plant, under bark of another, to raise a fruit different from the stock.
