Dictionary of Science, Literature and Art · 1842 · p. 10
An instrument for reducing an elastic fluid of a given ma into a smaller volume. The pneumatic condenser is a syringe by which a large quantity of air may be forced into a given space. It is constructed on the same principle as the air-pump; only the valves are disposed in the contrary order, that is, to open inward instead of outward. CONDI' [s. 282]
