contains hamatoxylin, on astringent body of nauseous taste, used to check diarrh@a. The chief eo is the decoction, a dose — two to four tablespoonfuls for an adult every three hours till the diarrhea is checked. It may be combined with chalk (which sec). It colours the urine dark red, and stains any clothing on which it is spilt. [s. 384]
