gaz′al, n. a form of Persian verse in which the first two lines rhyme, and for this rhyme a new one must be found in the second line of each succeeding couplet: a piece of music in which a simple theme is constantly recurring.—Also Gaz′el , Ghaz′el . [Pers. arghazel , a love-poem.]
