Sugar

(shoog'-ar) the general name of a cla of compounds belonging to group of carbohydrates. See Saccharum . Chemically, sugars are divided as follows: Cane-sugar, the ordinary sugar of commerce and pharmacy;; (grape-sugar or starch-sugar),; lactose, sugar of milk; and inosite, a variety found in certain muscular ti ues and in the juice of asparagus.
