Moloch

(molók,) or MOLECH. (Script.) The chief Ammonite deity, to which the Hebrews sacrificed children in the valley of Hinnom. According to the rab bins, its image was of bra , with the head of an ox and the members of a human body. It was hollow, and was heated from below; the children to be sacrificed being placed in its arms, while drums were beaten to drown their cries. (Zool.) Agen. of Australian horny saurians. Moltke.
