VERB

(Lat. verbum, a word.) In Grammar, a part of speech which consists of an affirmation and a property or attribute affirmed. Verbs are distinguished into transitive, intransitive, and pa ive. Besides these, there is the verb substantive, which expre es simple affirmation abstracted from any particular property affirmed. See Grammar. [s. 1313]
