Gleaning

the act of gathering after reapers or gatherers, as the a of grapes. Gleaning was an established practice among the Jews, and was sanctioned by the law of Moses, who enjoins them, when they reap the harvest, not wholly to reap the corners of the field, nor gather the gleanings, which were to be left for the poor and the stranger.
