GLEANING

(Fr. glaner.) The practice of collecting corn left in a harvest field after the harvest has been carried, which (Levit., c. 19; Deut., c. 24) appears by the Mosaic law to have been allowed to the poor. The right of the poor tomon law.glean is, however, not admitted in the English comGLEBE. (Lat. gleba, arable soil.) In Law, church land; usually taken for that which is annexed to a parish church of common right, and belongs to the parson or vicar. [s. 534]
