ACETONE

(Lat. acetum.) When acetate of lime, baryta, or lead, is subjected to dry distillation, a limpid colourle liquid is obtained, to which the above name has been given: it has a penetrating aromatic odour, and is highly inflammable: its ultimate components are 3 atoms of carbon, 3 of hydrogen, and 1 of oxygen.
