STEWART

DUGALD, the Scottish philosopher, was born in 1753, educated in Edinburgh, and attended Dr. Reid’s lectures in Glasgow. In 1775 he became Joint-Profe or (with his father) of Mathematics in Edinburgh University,, and in 1785 succeeded Adam Ferguson in the Chair of Moral Philosophy. He wrote " Elements of the Philosophy of the Human Mind," " Outlines of Moral Philosophy,” and accounts of the t "Life and Writings of Adain Smith," of "Dr. Robertson.” and of " Dr. Reid.” He died in 1828.
