Sternum

(stur'-mim). The flat, narrow bone in the median line in the front of the chest, composed of three portions, the manubrium, or presternum, the gladiolus, and the xiphisternum, or ensiform, or xiphoid, appendix. See illustration of Thorax, anterior view, page 224.
