FOX

(Canis vulpes), an animal allied to the wolf, dog, and jackal, and included with them in group Canidoe; characterized by long, bushy tail, or brush, by upright and somewhat large ears, short legs, and comparatively slender build; extremely intelligent and cunning, and feeds upon various small mammals and birds, and also fruit; preserved for _ hunting in Britain; his astutene has made him a favorite character in fable, the cla ic being Reynard the Fox.
