Originally, an instrument for determining the amount of oxygen present in the air, upon which the salubrity of the latter was thought to depend. [B, 2.] 2. An instrument for exploding gases by means of an electric spark in Bunsen's method of volumetric analysis of gases. It is a graduated gla tube, from 500 to 600 mm. long and 20 mm. in diameter, open at one end and closed at the other. Two platinum wires enter it at its closed end, the gla being blown around them so as to make air-tight joints.
